First, this idea that Snead was tasked with finding players that fit Fisher and Williams schemes is hogwash. Snead drafted players he thought were great football players. Ask the man, he will admit as much. And no, his drafts were not "pretty good." Just the fact that he blew the #2 pick in the 2014 draft and then spent a 2nd AND the #8 pick in the 2013 draft for Tavon Austin disqualifies him from being a pretty good talent evaluator.
But let's talk more about the 2012 draft when they could have been smart, stayed put and taken the player they liked (Wagner or Kendriks). Instead, they get cute and foolishly move down to regain a nothing 5th rd pick which they use to select Rok Watkins. Whose foolish decision was it to not take the player they wanted, but to move down, and miss out on the two players they identified? I imagine to some extent Jeff Fisher (believe it or not, these guys made joint decisions). So instead of getting a great linebacking play for the next 6 plus years, we got Isaah Pead and Rok Watson...great! That is NOT getting the "rug pulled out from under you." That is "getting too cute for your own good."
So, that is 3 years in a row of terrible decision making by Les Snead. He should have lost his job then. McVay saved him, and I will support Snead, and hope he continues to make bold moves, but the dude is lucky he was not canned years ago, and do not try and convince me he has a keen eye for talent.
