there are other issues at work...for one, can we get an edge rusher (or even a ILBer) on 3rd round? It's kind of a no-mans land historically for an edge rusher. I looked at the good ones and you can sometimes fine a gem in 5th round or later, but it's rare. The good ones who make pro bowls, are often the higher roungs, like 1st and 2nd...
for ILbers there have been more good players. So, I have more confidence that with one of our 4ths we can get a good ILber, but less confidence we can get a good edge rusher. When edge rushers fall, because there is such a premium on the position, they have a flaw. i.e. not big enough, not fast enough, short arms, lack of productions, just something. So, often teams will reach in the 3rd round.
Will we get a TJ McDonald of edge rushers? He was okay, played decent most of time, but was flawed...
Anyway, I really wanted that 1st rounder to get a premium edge player...
Cooks will be okay, I don't forsee him as a star but he can get deep, has decent hands, but this saves a lot of money over Watkins, but costs us a chance at a good edge rusher
