It is important to note that the restructured deal with Austin is that while his overall compensation drops from $8 mil to $5mil, the $5mil is fully guaranteed. That means that the Rams won't be cutting him because they don't gain a dime by doing so. And he's certainly better than any 53rd player on the roster. At the same time if they trade him (if I understand how it works correctly) the Rams have him completely off the books but the other team does assume a guaranteed $5mil, so they would have to be fully committed to him being on their roster for 2018.
I'd guess Tavon is a Ram for 2018. And I still think he can be used creatively to help this team.
Barron was given his $2 mil roster bonus just a couple of weeks ago. That means that the most the Rams could save by cutting him is $5 mil. I can't imagine the Rams cutting him, and at this point after the sunk cost, the additional cost of $5 mil for a player of his quality is certainly worth it. Look what FAs are costing. $5 mil is becoming chicken feed.
All this to say: I see no more FA additions except of the bargain basement kind. If Barwin is going to return it's going to be in the $1 to 1.5 mil range. And the Rams would sure help themselves if they could get a 2018 cap friendly extension deal done for Joyner.
I also expect them to cut Webster when he can pass a physical. That'll save them around $3 mil. They are knee deep in CBs and don't need Webster, especially when coming off about the most dicey injury a player can get; an Achilles tear.
