About throwing the ball more to Watkins...
First, let me remind others that what McVay/Goff have been doing has been verrrrry effective, to say the least. So, if it ain’t broke....
I get the argument that sometimes Watkins is open but Goff has already thrown the ball to another open receiver. Having multiple open receivers is the genius of McVay’s O. A very nice “problem” to have, indeed.
But it raises another question. If, as you say, Watkins is often open but not being targeted because he is the 3rd or 4th read, then one has to ask a $10 million question.
Do we really NEED a $10+ million 4th read WR in this particular O? This spread it around amongst 8 different receivers O? The top scoring O in the league?
IOW, could another $7 million or so FA WR (like Woods was) work just fine? And the saved cap dollars be invested elsewhere among so many deserving upcoming UFA’s?
Just asking. I want to get this Watkins contract decision right, unlike the Tavon contract fiasco. Not that I’m comparing the 2 players, of course.
