The Rams aren't going to let Donald go without great compensation.
The Rams have him by contract next year, and can franchise him the following 2 years. And save a lot of money in the doing.
What team is going to patiently wait until 2021 to get Donald? If a team is salivating for him, then you make the move if it is doable.
I really don't know what is going to happen. I sure think Miami was nuts to trade for Suh. He is a terrific player; but there's only so much a player can do from the DT position and I don't think he can ever do enough to pay him almost QB money.
I have said (and been jumped all over) that Donald simply is not worth the kind of money he's likely to get for the position and system he'll play in with the Rams.
I have heard folks say over and over that Wade's 3-4 is really just a disguised 4-3. Baloney. It is significantly different enough that the Rams moved their excellent NT Brocker out to DE. Moved Quinn to an OLB who has to regularly cover zones in passing. And has Barron having to confront Olinemen from his ILB position. Now the Rams are hurting for a NT and are using a 280 lb. DE at that spot.
The 3-4 IS different and I don't think it makes the best use of Donald's skill set.
If this was the Pats, he'd get moved and the media would put up with it because this is the Pats. The reason he is unlikely to get moved by the Rams is that Demoff doesn't have the cred in LA to absorb the howling of media and fans if it were to happen.
But it would be the right thing to do, especially if it netted some top draft picks or perhaps a player and a high draft pick. Not to mention giving them much more cap space to work under. And one thing for sure about the Rams; they'll spend the money and not just sit on it.
