I would rather pay Aaron Donald. Easley is gone. He's not even in the Rams organization any longer and he keeps having knee issues.
When was this written. Was this last summer?

The idea that more FAs means a better team strikes me as dubious. The question to ask is, does one elite defensive lineman = 2 good players at other positions? I say yes, having the elite DT is better. Elite DTs are worth what they get. We've been through this debate a lot, and my argument is that what you want is an elite DT combined with a good edge rusher. Chances of finding an edge rusher to replace Quinn are far better than finding an elite DT, so the only way to get that combo is to keep the rare elite DT you already have.
Well that;'s especially important to ask given the fact that the Rams don't have cap issues. Their future cap is pretty spacious. In 2011 the Rams are 11th in free cap space, and that's before making decisions on guys like Quinn and Austin (who combined represent 14+ M in additional space). In 2019 it;s closer to 90 M and that;s still before deciding on someone like Quinn and Austin (who combined represent 22+ M in additional 2019 cap space).
If they did lose Donald btw the way to replace him is not to find a halfway decent 3-tech, because there just aren't that many of those in existence. If they lost Donald they would probably field a more conventional DL with 2 3-4 style DEs. The way the league looks to me it's easier to find a decent 3-4 DE than another even halfway decent 3-tech. But then traditionally guys like that (ie. a 3-4 DE) just do not give you the kind of value and production you expect from a hot as heck elite 3-tech.
