I know, I know . . . He's a rookie, and he has a Swiss Cheese line, no receivers,...c. But, if I'm just zooming in on Goff, and no one else, I'm just not seeing him play within any pattern that matches up with all of that, with his context.
Well as a rule, how many rookie qbs have you ever seen playing under those conditiosn who DID play well.
You want to know what a talented rookie qb looks like when there is no running game, the OL is playing poorly, and the receivers are mediocre?
Like Goff has.
Yet...somehow, you think that says something about Goff?
So again---how many rookie qbs have you seen with no running game, leaky protection, and mediocre receivers who DID look good according to your criteria?
In contrast to you, in the midst of the chaos, I CAN see the unique talents Goff brings to the game. It's there, in the middle of all the mayhem. It CAN be seen. ...
Again, as I mentioned to GRITS above, I'm not making any blanket statements about his game. I don't see it as all bad or all good or anything close to that. And I said he makes great plays. So, that means
I can see his "unique talents" too. The puzzling thing for me is that these great plays don't seem to form any logical pattern . . . There doesn't seem to be a logical "cause and effect" progression for them. We agree that he has a lousy line, poor receivers, no running game and poor coaching . . . . At least I
think we agree on that. But if that's the context, then his play shouldn't really be all that erratic, with all kinds of highs and lows. It should be fairly consistent in being consistently rotten -- one would think. Or, if he's truly a major talent, he would rise above his context more often than not, and he doesn't. He does so here and there.
So, the proverbial jury is still out, and I was hoping it wouldn't be. I was hoping we'd know by now that if . . . .
1. The Rams surrounded him with talent and good to great coaching . . .
2. The Rams failed to do so . . . .
we could project, with some hope for accuracy, how he'd do.
IMO, we can't. And that's a little disappointing and frustrating to me.
That said . . . if I had to guess, based upon the sketchy scenario on display so far, I'd say he's going to be good. I don't see "greatness" in him. But I think he will be good. But, again, he is in serious need of some major, heavy duty weight training, or he's gonna get kilt.
