I don't agree that Fisher is mediocre...I think he's better than that. I agree about Vermiel but then no other Rams coach was or is in Vermeil's class. I don't believe that analyzing a team dynamic is "excuses." In fact I think the sole purpose of that word is to be dismissive. I tend to see the "e" word pop up when people point out things that really do tear all teams down, regardless of the coach, and the respondent doesn't have an answer to that. I just frankly have never heard of a team winning that lost its starting qb (in both cases with the Rams, for different reasons) and had to rely on #2 types (so no Warner in the background to save the day) AND at the same time had to rebuild its OL. So when people say the "e" word to that I just think "ah, so they have never seen that either."

If in 99, the Rams had no Warner, lost Green, had to start Justin, and then also lost Miller, Gruttadauria, and Timmerman, plus had to play a partially hobbled Pace...most would not have been defending Vermeil, either. When people pointed out what the multiple offensive injuries did to the offense, there would be some who would just dismiss that analysis with the "e" word.
