I think that that's probably a healthy thing.
Many have chimed in with good thoughts that I've enjoyed reading. When all is said and done, I think we're generally not all that far apart in our desires and perceptions, really.
Anyway, here's my abbreviated 2 cents worth...
I consider Fisher just an average HC. Strong on D and ST matters, but weak on O matters. Not the best HC if one's team is trying to find and develop a young QB and WR's, frankly.
But I am enough of a realist to know that Kroenke made the decision to stick with Fisher for that 5th year. Once that decision became obvious, the only thing left to do is support Fisher 100% for this season. Changing the HC at this point would be disastrous. Not gonna happen. Nor should it.
If Fisher posts a 10 win season, then give him his extension, by all means. And with a juicy contract, at that. But if he turns in another non winning season (yeah, 8-8 just ain't good enough), he should be outta here. It's that simple. There is clearly 10+ win talent on this roster. But that will be sorted out by Fisher's results this year. Fisher truly controls his own destiny.
I understand the strategy behind the Goff trade up and pick. I think it was both a bold and a shrewd move. One that will pay monster dividends down the road. Emphasis on down the road.
However, I must say that I thought Goff would be further along at this point. I lay maybe 75% of the blame for that shortcoming on the coaches and 25% on Goff, himself.
I think that Fisher deserves more credit than he's been getting for positioning a Case Keenum and a Sean Mannion in his QB room. They give him good options while we wait to see Goff get his feet on the ground.
A few words about our prospects this season...
I'm pretty danged optimistic, really. Not cautiously optimistic, but downright optimistic. I see improvements everywhere I look on the O.
I strongly suspect that we will be pleasantly surprised when Boras/Groh take the wraps off this "new" O. Mark my words.
Gurley at 100% is a potential 1500 yard rusher and 300+ yard receiver.
Very deep RB corps. Best that I recall, offhand. All 3 can take this O a long way.
I see a very good OL for this season. Might be a dominating one someday.
TE position is gonna be effective this year. Higbee has great potential for a TE oriented passing attack.
WR position is unproven as yet. But Britt, Austin, and Cooper/Spruce should be more than adequate to be effective, together with our TE passing threats.
Front 4 is the best in the business. And deep, too.
Love our top 2 LB's. And they will be the only two on the field on 65% of the snaps.
Absolutely love TruJo at one CB, but worried about Gaines' health. If Gaines is healthy, we're fine.
I'm a little worried about Joyner at slot CB. Don't want to see much of Sensabaugh on the field, either.
I may be in the minority, but I'm okay with our S position. Gotta confess that I'm puzzled by the release of Bryant and with only 3 Safeties on the current roster. But I'm confidant that Fisher and GW have a plan.
I see a fun '16 season ahead. Maybe playoffs fun. Heck, maybe deep playoffs fun.
Been a long time since we've tasted that, huh? Too long...
