The odds that even if one drafts a QB at any point in the 1st round that one will get their Franchise QB (which, to me, means a very successful QB that can take you to the Superbowl provided the rest of the team is good enough) are low odds. I honestly don't know, but anecdotally I'd say its no better than 1 in 4.
So, all this stuff about getting their next Franchise QB is media talk. Snead and McVay know full well that despite their best evaluation, and helping that young man to succeed, at best you're on the wrong side of 50/50 that it ever pans out.
And, I don't believe for a heartbeat that Snead will ever again draft a QB in round 1 at least for as long as McVay is here. Rather, they will pay whatever it takes to get a really good proven vet QB in trade, FA, whatever, when its time for Stafford to retire.
I think that unless a team has some motive that isn't known to the public that they would select a QB in round 1, when you already have an elite QB that is staying playing at a high level, it's a bad bet.
