I think you’re right but I think McVay has the right sense of this.
Teams dream of having a championship window—multiple Super Bowl appearances within a 5 year span.
Game manager types aren’t going to get you through that. Look at the Ravens with Dilfer. The Giants won two with Phil Sims so maybe it is possible.
But the Niners moved on from Garapolo and now we’ll see how they do with Purdy (I have my doubts against the Chiefs’ D).
Now look at the opposite: Mahomes. Is the guy finished?
These QBs are rare and it seems the easiest way to acquire them is to pick them off from lesser teams that don’t know how to assemble a championship window, but they’ve got this super talent at QB.
The draft is a guessing game.
