I wonder how much the shift in offensive mentality had to do with Goff’s struggles in December. And by extension, how much of Goff’s struggles had to do with the OLs struggles in December.
One stat that I find a bit unsettling is Goff’s yards/attempt after the bye. It’s still not where it was. He was under 7 yds/att against Dallas. That’s concerning to me. This is without getting sacked and rarely hit all game.
The concern is that if Goff isn’t going to push the ball vertically like he did earlier in the season, then he needs to be more accurate on his throws. He’s got to be better on the shorter stuff.
Steve Beurelein said yesterday that although Goff played well, and was well prepared, he wasn’t asked to do too much. He thought McVay lost some trust in Goff. But Goff is comfortable in his current role. He clearly played game manager against Dallas. Complement the running game and no turnovers. Will that be good enough in NO?
