Good discussion. A couple of points - no way that Landman and Reeder are our starting ILB's, if they are it will be because of injury. And on the return kick return front, Britain Covey will certainly be in the mix, that's why they signed him. There are a lot of long time good posters on this board that have left because of this - meaning the good information/discussion constantly gets pushed down. And saying 30% of articles from these sites are good is being incredibly generous. I'm not saying their defensive sets/structure will change, but I can tell you for sure what specifically has been discussed in the building, which is in the past few years they spent a great deal of the defensive front game plan being around how to isolate Donald with 1 on1's. True to a point, but having been to a few of these and knowing scouts that attend, it's actually more valuable than you would think but for different reasons. From a throwing perspective, there's minimal to glean, but in that more relaxed environment you get more direct access to talk with them, talk with teammates, see how they interact, talk with lower level assistant coaches, etc. A lot of phoby db - RamsFootballFans.com

As you mention in your last point, I think it comes down to how versatile they feel Young is. He is way too talented to take off the field. He's great in space and on the rush, but could he be stout against the run as a 4-3 end? Possibly for brief stretches. Was waiting for this topic as its actually an interesting and timely one. On paper, you can make the argument that we are better suited for a 4-3, with Turner as a 3-tech and Brown on the inside with him. Young had some evals prior to the draft that he might be better with a hand on the ground, although he seems light for that, but he's got a big frame. ...and certainly none towards Ryan Wendell as he is a good young coach, but the stabilizing of the OL has a lot to do with the experience of Mike Munchak, who was brought in and is still a consultant to McVay and the OL staff. We were never going to claim a QB to our 53, but I'm surprised at DL and Edge. As painful as it is, take a team like the 49ers, or the Eagles. Their DL's are stacked. Surely one of the guys they let go are better than guys we have - Earnest Brown we've released before and was on our PS, same with Jonah Williams, Larrell Murchison was a waiver pickup last year.
