True to a point, but having been to a few of these and knowing scouts that attend, it's actually more valuable than you would think but for different reasons. From a throwing perspective, there's minimal to glean, but in that more relaxed environment you get more direct access to talk with them, talk with teammates, see how they interact, talk with lower level assistant coaches, etc. A lot of phone calls are made in this regard, but it's a chance to actually see the whites of people's eyes as they answer questions about what they think of them, interactions, situations, etc. Local/regional scouts often have had this access previously, but not necessarily the upper levels, assuming it's someone they are actually interested in.
