There are a few critics of the draft picks here in Detroit. They already had a good back, and signed another good back, so why draft Gibbs. It's been seen as a wasted or unneeded pick. Anyone who follows Detroit football knew that it was their defense that cost them games and a playoff berth. I think they should have drafted the best D Lineman available. I think the critics are right here.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
That gave me a good laugh. Oh yeah, he ain't won a SB either.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Ego, arrogance, "me not we," lack of relationship-trust with his coaches since so many leave or he gets rid of them, and a strong commitment to the team's success. If I had his track record of success I'd be the same way. Youngest coach in the league, 2 SB appearances, one win, multiple playoffs made. Only 1 losing season. That's a lot to be very proud of. He believes in himselfby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
In a post season press conf. McVay criticized himself and said he was impulsive and impatient, (AFAIR). These are bad leadership character traits, yet due to his strengths he's been one of the most successful young HC's in NFL history I'd think. Personally, during this offseason I have not seen anything change. I don't like many of the seemingly haphazard, and very poor, trades we've madby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't recall any bad things happening between them. I do remember that he wasn't targeted very much early on, which was understandable.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I'd offer him something like a 2 yr contract at 3.5 million per year. He's a proven performer, reliable in all areas, and knows our system & coaches. If he says "No thank you" then let him have his hand in free agency. Fair enough.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
If we don't go OLine with our first pick I'll be disappointed. I'd also be disappointed if we don't get a Dline with the next pick. Knowing McVay's tendencies I'm 99% confident that I'm going to be very disappointed in this year's draft.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I would not put too much stock in Cam's last 6 games. It's only 1/3 of the season and McVay didn't have the passing opportunities so he ran more. Can is a fine back for us and RB is not a position of need. We need O and D linemen more. There's a reason why the 9ers always beat the snot out of us.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
We don't need another RB who is too small to carry the load and who'll be injured quickly. What value did we get out of K. Williams? Not to much as he was injured for much of the season. D. Henderson was another oft-injured too small RB. F=MA, little guys get walloped!by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I'm not a lover or strong critic of Morris, but dragging out a 12 year old article to criticize a coach today is not going to win you any credibility. It's a bad look. Morris has not been a bad coach for the Rams.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Judging from Snead's previous trades he'd trade Jefferson for a bag of potato chips and a diet coke.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Maybe a couple years earlier it would have been a great idea but not now. I think he's mostly done and I don't think he has the aptitude McVay wants.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Jim, I don't think 43, or the other stronger critics of Morris, are haters, not by a longshot. I think that like many of us, Morris' soft defense was a bit too soft and it was frustrating, if not laughable at times. I also think that you over-react at times about it. It's almost like a dog whistle and a caricature now. You're made some great points in your arguments and I learned some goby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Back in the day I believe Z posted some interesting facts about drafts picks and what percentage of 1st and 2nd rounders were busts. It was quite high. I agree with JY that Snead is average at least. Maybe above average.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I am not anti-Morris, but he's human just like me and open to criticism. Overall, we've done well with Morris haven't we? Didn't the Rams D rank #1 or close to it during one of his years? I disagree with those who say he should be fired. I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt and deserves a little objectivity just like McSnead does. But yeah, the vitriol here about Morris is overby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think Rapp had talent for playing closer to the LOS. It seemed to be a common understanding that he was a very good tackler but poor in coverage. I have no real criticism of Rapp and I'm sad to see him go because he was experienced with the Rams. Instead, as the other poster pointed out, he was used poorly by the D-coach. I see a bad moon rising. I suspect we will pick #1 for the upcoming 2024 season, unless McSnead trades it away. I am not upset about it as I have confidence in McVay. I also believe that we will be in another SB within the next 4 years.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Ramst. you bring up a good point that I thought about asking: "Why did such a large amt. of injuries happen this past season?" In some failure analysis programs there is something called a "5 Why" in which you ask a series of 5 questions about the cause of a cause of a cause, etc. I wondered if it was the turf that we played on? I've already read that astroturf type fielby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
It's always a pleasure for me to see stuff from the Rams of that era, brings back great memories. I was around 12 years old when I started following the Rams a few years after this 1965 clip. Ty for posting.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Promo, I think how you look at it will define your opinion or point of view. Like you, I think we have one of the best head coaches and football orgs. Having a losing season like we did is certainly an outlier compared to the team's record under McVay. Like you and many others here, I believe that in 2024 we'll be much better than this past season, (I'm not so sure about 2023 but I tend towby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
"The cause of the outlier should be considered and perhaps investigated." I made a point of saying that our season was an accurate reflection of our team. It clearly was and it was a mediocre team. You cannot disagree with that. I was also made a nuanced point: people tend to use the term "outlier" to justify discarding or ignoring a data point. That why I stated that tby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
We were mediocre, that is what our record says. Outliers are not meant to be casually discarded because they indicate a problem. The cause of the outlier should be considered and perhaps investigated if time, money, and experience agrees to it. I have seen time and time again, the best technical gurus discard an "outlier" as merely being a one off, whereas it was really the tip oby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
And a great message! You are right. Maybe sometime in a few months I'll be saying, "Who is this man, even the 9ers, Cards, and Hawks obey him!"by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I gotta agree 100% with Ferragamo. McVay has proved me wrong, big time, twice. He's proven himself, period. But the pessimism in me says that bringing in a handful of good FAs and getting average draft picks isn't going to make us a playoff team. However, OTOH, I feel almost, almost as doubtful as when 43 predicted a 10+ win season a few years ago. "Yeah right, lol, he wears rosyby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
You might be right Albany, but we don't know for sure. Let's face it, the Rams haven't been the sharpest pencils in the box when it comes to trades. As you said the whole thing felt rushed. I do believe that someone with better sales negotiating skills could have done better than what the Rams did. Many other fans from different teams said the same thing. In some cases they were laughing atby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I know you're great with the numbers Albany, but even I could have gotten a higher pick for Ramsey, and done the same financials. I think the Rams were desperate to clear cap space and Miami took them to the cleaner.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
1) If your comments about the Ram's hope of keeping Miller and Floyd are accurate then it was a bigger mistake in giving Floyd that contract. 2) The Ram's FO got screwed in the Ramsey trade. There's no reason to state it any other way. Together this tells me that as good as McSnead has been they still have bad blind spots. Leopards don't change their spots easily and I'm actually expectinby Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I feel the same way. I'm resigned to us having a worse year than this past year. I'm okay with it, but I expect more the following years. I wish the Rams could find a way to hire some of the smart peeps from the SF org. I'm always impressed by how well they keep their cupboard stocked. Maybe it's because they focus on their lines so much.by Coy Bacon - RamsFootballFans.com
