Re: This is almost impossible to discuss...

the CDC, the APA, and others have spoken to an increase in suicides and are currently addressing it as a 'real' problem... but when you bring it up, for reasons I can't figure out, you get resistance... as if you're 'offending the virus'. And it's not discussion... they will not TOLERATE the possibility.

"You only care about the economy". They will not tolerate the concept that this virus has far reaching consequences beyond the disease itself, which is horrendous. - JamesJM

And there are studies showing that there is no rise in suicides so it is apparently not that simple. Plus there is evidence that certainly tips the scales against the arguments the suicide rate makes this as BAD as the virus (don;t know if anyone here is making that argument but it's out there.)

It could be that differences on this have nothing to do with personalized stuff, or "resistance" and so on--it could be that there is not enough definitive evidence yet and regardless what it all means, paying attention to the evidence is a thing in its own right.

To me this is always a discussion of facts first. Given that I won't lecture you about your presumably bad motives. I just know that we're debating facts.
