You're right, the terminology is different so makes it hard to compare. Right now, I'm leaning HARD toward the Alesis SR18, because if you've had something similar for a while and are happy with it, that tells me it will probably do WAY more than I would ever need. Guitar Center lists a used one in Excellent condition for about $180 with tax/shipping, so that also makes it one of the better buys. I'd normally be reluctant to order something used, but GC will let you return pretty much anything locally once you see it.
Not sure I follow on outputs... I assumed I would just come out of it into a PA or small amp or speakers... The back shows outputs:
Aux L/R
Main Right
Main Left
Headphone
And one each midi in/out
Some of them have a USB port, but this one does not... I assume that's for connecting it to a computer for programming? Some of the endorsements I read for another model said it's much better to program ON the machine, rather than try to use software....
