I realize this is all opinions. OBJ was OK coming here as the #3 WR to get himself, hopefully, into a big payday for next season. It couldn't have worked out better for him with Woods being lost for the season within 3 days after OBJ signed. He's blossomed. Now in the Superbowl where he's likely to do well because there is no way Cincy is going to not double team Kupp every down.
Now? OBJ is the #2 WR. He'd be #1 on a lot of teams. But there is no being 1b when the other guy is Kupp.
There is also no way that players take an imaginary home town discount to stay; not when millions are at stake.
Someone is going to offer OBJ something like a $40 mil 3 year deal. Rams can't get anywhere near that. Especially when you have Jefferson on the roster.
Von Miller is a different animal. Rams traded for him. They'll find the money to keep him. Otherwise it's a very short term rental for 2nd and 3rd round picks. Snead wouldn't do that.
Okay, so we agree on Miller.
Now as to OBJ, here’s another way to look at it.
I think 3 years $40M is good value for Rams if not a bargain. OBJ has exceeded expectations, especially considering he joined midseason and had to learn O on the fly. Can you imagine his effectiveness if given a full camp with Stafford and the rest of these WR’s?
Another thing. Talent like OBJ will simply not be there with our pick late in the 3rd. IOW, Snead seems to be into stockpiling elite talent and OBJ is still an elite talent. He seems virtually uncoverable when paired with Kupp and targeted by Stafford. Such weapons are rare and I think Rams will move mountains to find a way to keep him.
Lastly, OBJ loves this team and these coaches. I think he’s made his money and now has a higher priority on having fun and collecting rings. He has commercial ties to LA already so if he and the Rams can meet in the middle I think this is gonna happen.
Time, of course, will tell.
