Here’s Merlin…
Signing Allen just feels risky to me Boni. Dropoff from him to Shelton is minimal so Shelton can hold it down one year while they work a new dev center.
This team is dedicated to drafting and developing on the OL. It's not a bad strategy given how NCAA teams don't really teach like they used to. Kind of boring too for us at least, because we can't see how these guys perform in practice.
Guard feels like the spot we need to upgrade. If they sign Corbs I'll be surprised because his film is kind of up and down. Maybe they think he's gonna be an elite guy at some point idk, but barring that just let him walk and collect the comp pick.
Glad you mentioned Drake Jackson. I was kind of hoping they'd transition to some more power types on that OL but they seem hell bent on zone/duo mix so maybe he has a chance to develop. I'd like more physicality though.
Going forward this offense needs to be better on the ground. There is no way they're happy with this ground game. It's not bad, but it's also not great and if you're gonna lock guys up before they hit the market it should be because they're part of the unit you want to have. If we assume Boom takes over for Whit then we have two guys being "paid" on the edges. And all these OTs they have drafted will compete for that RG job. Shelton at C, Edwards at LG.
Re: any draft picks we make I suggest they go after some guys with mean streaks. Type of OL who finish blocks snap to snap and play with a chip. And if they decide to let Boom walk in FA due to liking one of their in-house options at LT then that opens up a possibility of upgrading RG on the market. I really don't care how they do it I just hope they make an effort to upgrade physicality on the interior.
