about it not being SB or bust.... I posted that at the beginning of the season
I'm concerned about the decision making of Stafford... which in this last game seemed to be exceptionally poor. Like you, however, I prefer it to playing scared. But for me I worry a bit more about the errant passes.... which I can't explain. I don't know why they happen but some of them are so bad it makes me scratch my head. And sure, all QB's make bad passes... but seems to me Stafford's % of poorly thrown balls runs a little higher that most top QB's. He really seems to come up VERY short on the deep passes too often.
But the good outweighs the bad, (what I see as bad that is, others won't agree). He doesn't quit. He doesn't seem to me to ever get down... or allow an errant throw to effect ensuing plays. He also seems to me a very, as in VERY, quick reader... seeing a receiver 'about' to come open far better than the typical NFL QB and I think better than some of us would put in the elite category. In more than a few replays this year I was stunned when he released the ball thinking there was NOTHING to indicate the intended receiver was about to come open and THEN... the receiver gets wide open just as the ball arrives with near perfect placement. Several times this year I wondered why they don't roll him out more but it occurs to me that perhaps Stafford's best asset is his vision... and keeping him in the pocket allows him to take advantage of that talent. Especially in the red zone. To me this is something in a QB we have been lacking for a very long time.
