First, the Big Picture. His overall ‘21 production has exceeded most everybody’s expectations. And Rams ARE leading in the tough NFC West while owning a tie for 2nd best record in the NFL.
But there are those two nagging things. Namely:
He still is making occasional foolish throws that result in pick-6’s or turnovers deep in Rams territory. We are talking about a veteran 13 year starter here. One that McVay has called exceptionally smart, btw. It’s inexplicable.
The other thing is that sometimes Stafford’s accuracy is almost unbelievable. We’ve seen him drop dimes into WR’s hands on a 50 yard throw and seen him put balls into tight windows maybe only a foot wide. At other times we’ve seen him make wild throws low, high, and/or behind his receivers. And there’s never any warning when such bad throws are gonna occur. If he’s injured and covering it up that’s one thing, but everybody keeps denying that so I dunno….
I guess we’ve gotta take the good with the bad on Stafford and just hope that he can put together 4 solid games consecutively come playoff time. If he can do that then I REALLY like Rams chances because all other phases of this team are coming together.
