Why some other team? I mean, If he does so well here why would you wish for him to leave? I hope he does well and meshes well and resigns somehow. A WR of his caliber is better then a potential 3rd round comp pick anyday.
I think it's just the reality of the Rams 2022 cap situation in relation to the number of free agents they will have.
Right now the Rams have $6M in cap space (although they can, and probably will, increase that with some renegotiations and/or extensions). But as it stands, that $6M is less than all but 5 other teams).
Here are all of the Rams free agents next year, some of whom obviously won't be re-signed. But three of these guys are penciled in as OL starters, one is a starting DL, two are part of the OLB rotational, at least one would be a starting CB if he re-signs, one is the #2 TE, and one is the current #2 RB (although he drops to #3 once Akers returns).
Odell Beckham, Jr, WR
Austin Corbett, G
Brian Allen, C
Joe Noteboom OT
Sebastian Joseph-Day, DL
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, OLB
Von Miller, OLB
Darious Williams, CB
Donte Deayon, CB
Johnny Mundt, TE
Sony Michel, RB
Buddy Howell, RB
12 UFA’s is actually a lower than average number in one offseason.
Having said that, it’s clear that Rams will lose another handful of quality players due to that pesky cap.
It’s my hope that Rams can keep those 3 OL
If Von plays really well, I think they find a way to keep him.
But after those 4 it gets increasingly iffy for me.
