OBJ's contract with the Rams:
$500,000 signing bonus
$750,000 salary
Up to $3 million in
team based incentives (including $500,000 if the Rams win the Super Bowl)
And I can't find exactly what other team-based incentives are included, but it's probably safe to say that if the Rams win the Super Bowl he would collect all $3M.
So he gets $1.25M even if he just goes thru the motions for 8 games.
But he gets another $3M if the Rams win the Super Bowl.
Btw, OBJ's cap number is $1.25M. Apparently the NFL considers the incentives not likely to be earned so they don't count against this year's cap. If he earns them he'll still get paid, of course, but the money will count against next year's cap.
My guess? He will do whatever he can to help the Rams win the Super Bowl. Not only will that earn him $3M, but it would likely increase his value when he hits the free agent market next year. I've seen a lot of criticism fired at OBJ, but 'dumb' isn't one of them.
