Michael Brockers explains how Dan Campbell reminds him of Sean McVay

Michael Brockers will be wearing a new uniform this season after the Rams traded him to the Lions, a somewhat surprising deal that only happened for salary cap purposes. He’ll also have a new coach after spending the last four years with Sean McVay, joining a team that’s led by first-year head coach Dan Campbell.
Brockers was on the Jim Rome Show and said Campbell reminds him a lot of the way McVay handles things. Not necessarily their schemes or plays, but in the fact that they’re both all about establishing a team-first mentality.
“Working with him is awesome because he reminds me a lot of McVay and how he came in, as far as understanding that, man, there’s no ego when it comes to his coaching style,” Brockers said. “It’s all about the team, it’s all about — I don’t want to use a statement from the Rams, but it’s a ‘we not me’ mentality. It’s all about the team, it’s all about what we can do to be better, what we can do to win more games.
“I like that aspect about his coaching. It’s not, ‘I’m coming in here and I’m changing the team.’ It’s more about — yeah, he is coming in here, he’s a new coach and he has a lot of expectations. But at the same time, he’s expecting us as men to do our part. And I think that’s what we love and what we respect about him.”
McVay had immediate success in 2017 when he was a first-year head coach. Campbell has a much greater challenge in Detroit considering he inherited a barren roster that’s in need of an overhaul, but all the initial reports on the Lions coach have been positive.
Even going 7-10 or 8-9 should be considered a success for Campbell and the Lions.
