But I thought this one bit was dead on right and sincere: I think I could have been much better about those real-time communications.
I think that is real and that the issue was pretty clear.
...
What does that mean and how would we know it was an issue apart from Mcvay's words?
Not disputing or disagreeing with you. Just not sure exactly what he's referring to
If after games McVay was expressing displeasure with how the qb was approaching the game, and so on, that does not just mean Goff was not seeing the plays the way he was supposed to, which is how most take it. It means the coach is neither communicating what he sees and wants nor asking the qb what he sees and why he's making the choices he is. It's disconnect. Disconnect is never good and I honestly believe McVay learned from this. The qb and the coach need to CONnect.
I think a lot of qbs this year suffered from their offenses changing, sometimes a little and sometimes a lot, but changing while they had no OTAs, real camp, or preseason games to get a feel for the new offense. Not everyone learns through zoom.
I think that's exasperated by the head coach not fostering communication with the qb. I mean if after a certain number of games the coach and the qb are seeing different things they are supposed to work it through and see the same things.
I spent more words on that then I needed or intended to. I think it's just a very simple and obvious thing. McVay says right there that he did not communicate enough. The coaching is saying he did not communicate. Well in games we saw symptoms of lack of connection.
Personally, I am glad he saw it and owned up to it and of course probably is going to work on it.
Now do me a favor and help keep this an honest discussion by keeping the "don't criticize the coach" police from taking over.
