I would bet with a 2-3 year window Goff would have continued to get better and he has already won big games so would be a SB QB in that window earning his contract. If Stafford with his experience leverage can't do it in 1 year then the trade was a bust.
I don't think you'd win that bet Bum.
Over the last 2 years, Goff did not look like same 2017/2018 SB QB. In fact, his decline started in mid-2018 and was highlighted in the SB game. Sometimes players get figured out with their weaknesses exposed from then on.
Could be what happened with Goff. If so, the 'he already won big games' argument becomes irrelevant. The relevant question is, can he win big games in the future. It sounds like McVay and Snead didn't feel confident that he could.
If the Rams win the SB with Stafford in the next 2-3 years, no one is going to be saying "but they could have won with Goff too" unless he's tearing it up in Detroit. So IMO the clock to measure things is 2-3 years, it's not 1 year.
