I would bet with a 2-3 year window Goff would have continued to get better and he has already won big games so would be a SB QB in that window earning his contract. If Stafford with his experience leverage can't do it in 1 year then the trade was a bust.
Several things, Bum.
I think it’s time to face facts. Goff was struggling in this McVay O (for whatever reason) for the last 41 games. He not only wasn’t improving, he was regressing. I don’t think that’s debatable.
You remember the famous Einstein quote about insanity? I think it applies here, especially while the SB window clock is ticking. McVay simply couldn’t afford to continue to hope that the light would suddenly come back on for Goff, at least in this O.
Now, Goff is an above average QB, IMO. But he apparently wasn’t a good match with McVay’s desired O for the long term. Hopefully, Goff can find success in Detroit and I’m reasonably certain that Stafford will thrive here with the Rams.
As to claiming that anything less than a SB win under Stafford makes this trade a bust? I’ve already posted my sentiments on that.
The Rams made a tough and very expensive decision on this trade and I not only support their decision, but I give them a ton of credit for going all in pursuing their SB goal.
