If I followed along correctly I think the idea is that Jefferson would step into the role of whoever got traded (Woods or Kupp) and then the Rams would add another WR with speed to give the Rams something that Woods/Kupp/Jefferson don't have.

Personally I don't know if Jefferson can fill the void, but it wouldn't surprise me. And FWIW I wouldn't expect the Rams to deal either Woods or Kupp unless they thought so. So assuming the Rams staff think Jefferson is up to the task they may think a combination of Kupp/Jefferson/WR-with-4.35-speed gives the offense more options than Kupp/Jefferson/Woods.

And that assumes a Woods trade, but the same thing could be said about Woods/Jefferson/WR-with-4.35-speed if Kupp was traded.
