I'm not going to go into who won this trade or what it will mean for Stafford or Goff here.
What I've come around to is that what we traded for Stafford is actually more about Stafford value than taking Goff off our hands.
Shrager and some others have reported that the Panthers had all but wrapped this trade up, by offering the 7th overall Bridgewater and another pick (around a 3rd but possibly higher!).
So if that is true.....
And a small assumption that Jimmy Johnson's trade chart still is at all useful....
Our 2022 1st and 1st in 2023 still does not equate to the Panthers top 7 pick this year.
Possibly not even with our 3rd pick thrown in. Then there is still Bridgewater and their other pick to compete with.
So what I'm seeing is that while Goff wasn't going to have great trade value on his own, he seemed to have around a 2nd round equivalent value and very much part of the value of the Rams overall package.
What I'm not seeing is that we somehow paid a 1st or even a 3rd for them to take Goff off our hands.
I'm now sure a team with cap space needing a QB might have given the Rams at least a 3rd in a separate trade. Look at the chat around Wentz just now. However he was more valuable in being part of the value to the Lions.
