It's a bit hard to believe. Even the open competition thing... I think you're probably right about something going on off the field. I think he has played OK. Definitely not up to contract but nothing that I would trade him for or put him in a position where he is competing for his job. And I certainly wouldn't use the words "right now" when asked if he is my QB... lol
That said, he has hit a wall, IMO. Probably can't overestimate how much a healthy Gurley and a strong OL meant to his success. Didn't Everett also have a good running game and OL? And wasn't the guy who replaced him a more athletic/scrambler type? I had the good fortune of seeing TJ play in Arizona... He was awful and the Cards destroyed the Rams that day.
I have no problem moving on from Goff. My only concern is knowing how hard it can be to find a good QB... which I think Goff is. Unless the Rams are coming to the conclusion that they cannot put a very good OL in front of him, I would think he would still be the starter no questions asked. Otherwise probably time to move on and the day of the pocket QB might be fading quickly.
