I have really liked Goff overall and for two years (2017-2018) he 110% lived up to what we all wanted when the Rams selected him #1 overall. And I, like others, gave him a pass in 2019 when the OL was a shambles for most of the year (and when his play improved when it came together the final 6-7 games).
But 2020 was frustrating. The offense shrunk. The Miami game happened- which I was able to get past. Through 13 games he was...fine. The Rams were 9-4. He had a QB rating of 93.0. But then the Jets game happened- which I couldn't get over. Then the Seattle loss and the injury. And the house of cards just seemingly crumbled from there. And I'm not saying AT ALL that all the offense's issues were on him.
But all I can say is something is clearly going on we as fans just can't see. We see Goff on TV 3 hours a week. McVay and the Rams see him 6 days a week, like 35-45 hours a week. Is it shot confidence? Smarts? Questionable work habits? Personal friction? Big contract syndrome? Less focus since the girlfriend came on the scene? I don't have the first clue. But it is already getting pretty hard to see him here in 2021 now. McVay's and now Snead's words are just too....clear.. And now open competition with Wolford? Come on...
Different situation. But it reminds me of Jim Everett's decline when he went from one of the top 3 QBs in the NFL for two seasons (1988-89) and a guy Rams fans thought would retire a Ram in 2000 to a shell of himself and finally benched for TJ Rubley in mid-1993.
