On our first series inside the five, Wolford keeps the ball and runs right. To me it looks like an easy TD with his quick speed and agility to win the edge. Mysteriously, at the last second, he turns inside the last blocker and tries to run it inside. He is met at the one and his whole body swings sideways.
I am not criticizing his decision or his performance. He must have seen something open up there. Football is a game of quick decisions, good and bad bounces, and human athleticism. But as we're always talking numbers, if he had run that in all his numbers would be greater. We would be talking about how he had scored. But instead, we're talking about how it wasn't his fault that we didn't get a TD. I think this one play seems to me that it was a poor choice at the time by Wolford.
With all that said, my evaluation of Wolford neither goes up or down. It was one play, one choice, in one series. But it is just interesting to me that we've talked about Everett's easy drop and Akers' fumble, but not this play. It was an easy score if he had kept running outside
The play was 1st and goal at the 1 (after the PI on Woods) snapped at 1:05 in the first quarter
