I think there's a group of fans that are happy we have a backup who can come in and we can win with. And I think it's an enormous positive for us going forward.
I;m not all that sure the backup avoided the same problems. 2 goal line opportunities blown, just like in the Seattle game. Fortunately Arizona is one of the teams the Rams can handle--it's not going to challenge the offense the way the defenses did in the 2nd Seattle game, the Jets game, and both SF games. But given that, still, 9 points is not peak production against Arizona, that's squeaking by.
And that's at least in part because of the exact same kinds of issues that plagued the Rams offense in the games I mentioned. And it's not just protections.
Plus remember this is not the Rams offense struggling against ANY good defense. They beat a couple of good defenses this year. Just not ones that played them like the teams did in the games I just listed.
The defenses they beat include:
Washington, 2nd in yards, 6th in pressure percentage, 4th in offensive points allowed
Tampa, 6th in yards, 2nd in pressure percentage, 6th in offensive points allowed
New England was top 10 in 2 of those categories: 5th in pressure percentage, 8th in offensive points allowed (they were 15th in yards though).
The Giants weren't that bad either. They were 12th in yards, 9th in pressure percentage, 12th in offensive points allowed
