When Alex Smith was the Chiefs QB, it was mostly dink and dunk. He just didn't push the ball up the field like Reid wanted.
The Chiefs move up in the draft and take Mahomes. Smith is a danged good QB at the time, but the writing was on the wall with the Mahoimes pick. He takes over in year two and immediately the Chiefs O is transformed into a big play Juggernaut.
Ultimately, the QB dictates whether he's going to take shots down the field. I think in Goff's case, he just checks down too many times.
