Passer rating is much easier to do a direct comparison than wins. That's why people focus on that and QBR. Both of those metrics have their issues to but you can't even start doing a direct comparison with record alone.
We've seen 2 starting NFL QBs in McVay's offense. How do you feel Goff and Cousins stack up against one another?
Yeah, I defy someone to come up with a single example of a person valuing passer rating over the team's won/loss record. That's a strawman of the highest level.
Haha... you musta forgot you wrote this in this very thread...lol
“McVay had Colt McCoy at a 96 rating and Cousins was a mid round pick. I really don't think that Goff is doing something that many other QB's couldn't closely replicate. Especially if much of the $135M went to upgrade other areas”
When I point out the win/loss record you go back to passer rating and say McCoy is as good as Goff
Nowhere did I say passer rating was more important than the team's W/L record though, did I? Where you seem to be confused is thinking the W/L record is a QB stat. Which it's not.
So, when comparing QB's in a similar system/situation, passer rating is definitely a legitimate way to compare how QB's are doing. Yes, the sample size with McCoy is small but the point is, even in that 5 game sample, he was producing at a 90+ rating. Now, you may not think McCoy is on the same level as Goff but the production is too comparable. That Goff can even be put in he same conversation as McCoy in passer rating is the point of the conversation. If you could put McCoy in the Rams offense and not have a dramatic dropoff, then you really have to question Goff IMO.
