Top to bottom, McVay is easily the best HC we've ever had. I am very pleased with almost everything he does. No real complaints at all and aside from the miracle of the Rams returning to LA, finding McVay, as a Rams fan, really can't be overstated.
But in terms of fun and attitude, I still would have to give it to Martz. I loved the product he put on the field and I loved that he had the attitude that other teams had to adjust to us, not the other way around.
And, while I acknowledge that some of the problems he had, he brought on himself, I actually commend him for doing what he did because of the dysfunction of the team at the time. Martz was expected to maintain a dynasty as well as overcome the shadow of Vermeil all while dealing with a front office out to get him and for a team that didn't have a true scouting department or fully functional support system in place for him.
Had he had an owner and front office and overall situation comparable to what McVay has had, things for him would have turned out better IMO. Which isn't to say that he was blameless but at the end of the day, he was a first time head coach who was barely a first time coordinator and he was not give the support and patience that his record deserved.
