I'll say this for Prothro, while he was HC they drafted a lot of the core players that Knox won his string of divisions with (Robertson, Jack Youngblood, Elmendorf, McCutcheon, Bertlesen and Larry Brooks).
And it was because of that success, that Prothro landed the San Diego job in 1974 and again as a youngster, I just thought every former Ram Head Coach went to San Diego, Gillman, Svare & Prothro. Problem Prothro was better at personnel then being a game day Head Coach and was fired in 1978 after his best record with the Chargers was 7-7 and replaced by Don Coryell, who along with Bill Walsh were the two Coaches I wanted the Rams to hire to replace Chuck Knox in 78 and not George Herbert Allen Part 2.
