I don't see it, but then again, I was very young back then (born in 66) what I remember is the defense was trending downward under Prothro and in 72 QB Roman Gabriel missed some games, in which, the Rams had to turn to back up Pete Beathard. The Rams gave up 45 points in two games that year against the Raiders & Vikings, which sealed Prothro's fate with new owner Carroll Rosenbloom. Gabriel's injuries led the Rams to acquire John Hadl as Rosenbloom wanted to ensure they were covered at that position, but Gabriel demanded a trade after the Rams acquired Hadl in 73.
IMHO this Ram team is much better defensively and if Goff can learn to fight on another play and McVay stays more patient with the running game, this Ram team would be much better moving forward.
