parallels with the 1971 and 1972 teams

November 09, 2020 02:22AM
It occurred to me that the 2020 Rams have some parallels to the 1971 and 1972 Rams, which had Tommy Prothro as the head coach. On offense, both teams had some good players but used a gimmicky, smoke-and-mirrors approach to try to compensate for a lack of premier talent. Of defense, both teams had some great players. Overall, both teams had games in which they looked good, they were competitive enough to contend for the division title (the 1971 and 1972 teams came up short), and it was clear that neither team was a Super Bowl contender.
