I meant McVay on the hot seat to mean he would start getting heavily question by media for doing bad job addressing the OL if Goff gets hurt because of that. It would also warrant that he gets “help” like Vermeil got when he was told to get someone to run the offense after 1998 season.
When it’s obvious to so many that the OL has been mismanaged, you’re gonna take heat.
I’m gonna give McVay high marks on self scouting himself and his asst coaches.
He waited a year too long to get another OC and that experiment with Kromer as run game coordinator didn’t work out well. But overall? I’m beyond impressed with his OC and DC hires plus the new RB coach sounds like a gem. Honestly, McVay has assembled a top flight corps of asst coaches.
The OL situation was crippling last year. Not gonna sugarcoat it. But the injuries to 3 of the 5 starters was devastating in and of itself. What other OL could survive that? We could count Whit as a 4th OL injury because he was forced to play through an ankle that required postseason surgery.
Bottom line for me is that I wouldn’t trade McVay for any other HC in the league. Period.
