First of all there's no such thing as "proven expertise" in matters of taste. That's impossible. He can have proven expertise in the history of uniforms and the details of that history. That's real knowledge of actual facts. The rest is taste. Some agreeing with his taste (which is why he got posted here) does not change the fact that it is simply taste.
In matters of taste, there will always be some who believe their own personal opinion is a "truth." But it is impossible for that to be real. Taste is taste. There is no "truth" in discussions of taste.
