ive commented on this numerous times so im not going to rehash it all but i just dont think their goal was ever to be in "touch with the fans of their own brand". you want it to be about you but its not bout you. fans like yourself may not like the uniforms but your not going anywhere and you will still buy the old stuff. old stuff, new stuff, why would kd care as long as you buy something. imo, the rebrand is to capture a new generation of fans, specifically younger kids in and around la who will be fans for life. could i be wrong? sure. did they do that? idk. time will tell.
moreover, i absolutely GUARANTEE kd conducted some sort of marketing polls/analysis. hes not a stupid guy. what makes you think the "simple series of polls on social media" are more valid than the information he paid for and gathered? i dont know for sure what sort of tests kd did, but i know for a fact that social media polling is typically very biased for reasons ive mentioned numerous of times. thus nearly every "poll" posted here suffers from the same biases. most notably they dont capture the demographic i believe kd is trying to reach. if you dont want to believe that, thats fine. like i said before...merchandise sales will be the best performance metric. well see.
It's not just about me PHD. It's about all of us. You say: "i just dont think their goal was ever to be in "touch with the fans of their own brand".". If that's true, then IMO they made a BIG mistake. It's your "already established" fan base that will be buying (or not buying) the new design. If it's NOT your GOAL to please as many of your "base" then you are setting yourself up for failure. Now THAT would be stupid and as you say "KD is not a stupid man". I agree he is not stupid...just out of touch with (or didn't care) what most fans wanted.
As for the polls, are you telling me that by doing polls or questionnaires wouldn't have had an affect on the outcome, then I disagree. As for being "more valid than the information he paid for and gathered", I say it would have been just as valid. If you do 50 polls and 30 of them come back with negative results, that should tell you something. But alas, that was not done.
After all, didn't KD "gather and pay for" a stolen ASU logo? A simple poll would have pointed out by many (as it has been) that this particular logo was already used by ASU and that the Rams head logo had a phallus on it. How do you justify that? Paying for a "stolen" logo and a poorly designed Rams head. I would say he got ripped off and taken advantage of. lol
I hear you about trying to reach a younger demographic but not at the expense of your already loyal and established base and that's what happened here. It's almost disrespectful to ignore or diminish the value of long time fans to say "we aren't targeting you". Your opinions don't matter as much. We don't care as much about your demographic. That is also why this subject is so passionate to many here. Our opinions DO matter and SHOULD matter.
I agree, the sale of merch will tell the tale. I will do my part by not spending a penny on the new stuff.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
