I don’t buy that the offensive line was bad for Goff but good for Gurley
I merely used the fact that the Rams oline allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL as a serious anomaly for an oline who by every other measure including our eyeballs did not play well. I can’t ever recall seeing a stat like that for a poor oline. And for the record and to be clear I don’t think the oline was great last year. It obviously took huge steps back from 2017, and 18. I just don’t think all of Goff’s issues were the oline.
I think like for Gurley it is a combination of things. And I said this before. I think Gurley needs big holes and he doesn’t have great vision. So when things were really going well and teams had to account for the WRs and were confused by all the motion and his knee was good it was easy for him.
I spent one Saturday afternoon looking at Gurley’s highlights with the Rams and had a hard time finding one that didn’t have him making things happen when things weren’t great. Squeezing through holes, changing direction, or great vision of even patience. I don’t want to go overboard I’m just saying I think Gurley might have been more a product of McVay’s system. I willing to be in the minority on that.
As for Goff there just isn’t any need for you and I to go there. It’s all good but like Gurley I think he needs things to be just right too often and when they aren’t he really struggles. Way more that he should. I think that contributes to why he is not thought of very highly by a lot of people.
