OTOH, I would advise my own young sons, if I had such, to avoid football and concentrate on other sports. Certainly beyond high school. Risk of head injury alone would dictate this. When you add in knees, ankles, arms, and shoulders? Geez, it doesn’t seem worth it.
Strange dichotomy, huh?
I feel the same way, I played it & coached it and love the sport and I still believe it's the only sport that even if you have the best player, he can look pedestrian behind a team of have nots.
However, I advised my son not to play and I would advise my grandson too, but I also advised my son not to join the military and would advise my grandson too even though the Air Force is responsible for everything I've accomplished in life. That does not mean the military is in decline, although you would think so talking to some it is. Not sure on football yet, I do believe they will make it safer and the equipment will evolve with less injuries to support the data, but all of us are being honest...We love the game, now some will advise golf, basketball, etc., however, that takes quite a bit of skill and less people to play it, so maybe football has a chance in the future because regardless of what the European's say, a 0-0 tie in soccer is just not exciting IMO.
