I brazenly predicted 5 years ago that full contact football would be a memory in 10-15 years primarily due to the brain injury factor. More and more parents are preventing their children from playing the sport for that very reason including my own kids. I have 3 grandsons, all of whom played football as did my son. But all have been moved away into other sports (baseball, basketball and wrestling) due to the injury factor.
It's a shame, I love football at every level. But eventually common sense and medical knowledge catches up to tradition and a parent's first duty is to protect their children from harm. Following the ambulance carrying my 15 year-old son from a football game was one of the scariest days of my life. Fortunately he recovered and took up golf.
