Just look at how long this post is. End of story. Hey-I'm not judging others. I'm right there on the uniforms. If they made a drastic change I'm not sure I couldn't be like Max or others too. I am as addicted to the imagery as anyone here-maybe more so because of my lengthy history with the image. One doesn't have to look any further than all the merchandise we purchase and how large a business imagery actually is in football. To me its just soooooo obvious. We don't identify with the "person" Jared Goff-we identify with the uniform he wears. Why else do we -me included- wear the Ram sweatshirt when we go to the market, etc. Indeed, why don't the jerseys we wear to the market have "faces" on them rather than numbers ? If we actually "identified" with a player(s) we would follow them when they were traded or retired. The only player I can think of that I have done that was Kurt Warner. I still follow him in terms of what he's doing etc.
In all likelihood you and I are talking over ourselves -saying the same thing. Imagery is really nothing more than a cognitive process in which some entity comes to stand for or represent something else. Maybe that's what your referencing when it comes to tradition and history. So-as in life-we may have come full circle here.
