Reposting some Senior Bowl Practice notes on LT Josh Jones

Day 2 of Senior Bowl Practice
Josh Jones, OT, Houston. Jones had some ups and downs during Tuesday's practice -- it's not uncommon for offensive linemen to start off a little slower than defensive linemen at the Senior Bowl -- but on Wednesday, he was impressive. He got into Wisconsin LB Zack Baun -- one of the top performers on Tuesday -- and moved him down the field. In pass pro, he was shutting people down. I talked to some personnel people here who shared my enthusiasm for his performance. He looks better than Tytus Howard did here last year. I think Jones is a second-round tackle, but it won't be a surprise if he gets pushed up the board, just like Howard, who went to the Texans in Round 1 last year, did. He's a physical specimen and a lock to go in the top 40. He's just too long, too athletic, and has too much potential at left tackle to last long in the draft.

Day 3
Josh Jones, OT, Houston. There has been buzz building around Jones from the midpoint of the 2019 season, but this was going to be a big week for him. Would he continue the momentum or fall behind others at his position? Jones struggled to find his footwork and consistency on Day 1 here in Mobile, but he stood out on Day 2 with strong reps, stoning rushers in pass protection and sustaining run blocks on the second level. On the final day of practice, Jones had impressive victories over North Carolina's Jason Strowbridge -- another big winner this week -- including a pancake at the end of a one-on-one rep. He heads toward the NFL Scouting Combine with great momentum, and should only help his case even more with his athletic testing.-- Lance Zierlein

Miami Dolphins 2020 NFL Draft: Is 6-foot-5 Josh Jones of Houston a left tackle answer?
By Joe Schad

Jones is athletic, a proven pass protector, and has huge upside

MOBILE, Ala. — The Dolphins must emerge from the next NFL draft with a player they trust at left tackle to protect whatever franchise quarterback they select.

For that reason, Miami seems likely this week to closely evaluate Josh Jones, the most talented and intriguing offensive tackle prospect at the Senior Bowl.

Jones is 6-foot-5, 311 pounds, with nimble feet and the ability to smother pass rushers of all shapes and sizes. Forget about allowing sacks. At Houston, Jones allowed only 18 pressures in 1,282 pass-blocking snaps over three years.

“Pass block,” Jones said, when asked his strength. “I just got the job done. This year I let up four pressures and a half sack. I’m dominant at it. I take pride in it. If I give up a pressure, even close to a sack, I’m kicking myself in the butt. It’s just a source of pride.”
