My gut tells me the run struggles were a combination of Gurley and the oline. However they weren't exactly trying to establish the run either early. But I would be lying if I told you I understand McVay's approach to the run game this year. They drafted this kid from Memphis and hyped him up and then nothing. Signed Malcolm Brown and don't play him either. How can a coach whose pass offense relies so heavily on the ability to run not have developed a better run game or approach to running. Its an afterthought most of this year
Re the oline - I think they are in big trouble on Saturday. They simply are not physical enough to hang with a healthy 49ers defense and because Goff reacts so poorly to pass rush and the Niners can bring the heat man (as you well know) this game looks bad bad bad.
My guess is they pull out the same plan they did in the first game. Run heavy and ask their defense to carry them and hope Goff can make a few plays. That plan ultimately did not work against the Niners but did against the Bears.
