What other national media guy is publicly saying he doesn't think the Rams will extend Goff??? This is not about people who have doubts because they saw a few bad games, this is about someone actually thinking he won't be extended or won't be surprised if he isn't ...that's all.
Most of the doubters like it or not are the same people who were calling him a bust in his rookie year.
Well I think it's obvious they will extend Goff. But in terms of what "people" plural say they won't, I was just responding to you--and you made it about people, plural who are doubters:
"The same people who you find out there with doubts about Goff are probably the same people who were calling him a bust after his rookie year." I assumed there you meant doubts in general, not specifically claiming the Rams won't extend him. And to come down from my jokey tone ("careers at stake" ), the simple and direct point is, I don;t think anyone who doubts Goff now will be embarrassed later. The most likely thing is they will just go "oh I was wrong about Goff I guess." I think the doubts now are sincere (though I just don't agree with them) and I also think that when Goff proves them wrong they will just acknowledge it.
There are people on this board with doubts about Goff. It's not a strange thing. It doesn't have to be explained away through psych 101 stuff about avoiding embarrassment or any other devious motive.
And as it happens I am not one of them. I was in Goff's corner from just before they drafted him (when I saw it would be Goff), through 2016, through interception-gate in the summer of 2017, through the Atlanta game aftermath and the 2018 late-season slump and superbowl, and am still with him. I personally believe he will improve and I even pointed out that Brady had a slump at the end of his 3rd season too. BUT that doesn't mean I think the doubters are crazy, or warding off embarrassment, or delusional, or not real Rams fans, or deliberately being frivolous, or any of that (and you didn't say most of those things, just expanding the list). I just think he needs to be more consistent, which is a young qb issue, and I think that so far his play has gotten more erratic when he loses confidence in the OL (which is not a rare trait among qbs, even veteran ones...we've seen the Rams D cause Brees among others to see ghosts....). I think that stuff can all be made better with experience.
So we agree on Goff, which is the important part of the issue.
