In fact, looking at the drafts since then, there's more evidence than not this was a Fisher special, including Snead's own words that he doesn't see value for Oline in the early rounds. And since that pick, there as a second rounder, and all the rest have been 3rds and later.

Because according to all the info we have (and from different sources speaking independently, including Demoff, Fisher, and Snead) that's not how they did things. They set the board long before the draft and stuck to it. There has never been any report at any time that they ever violated that approach. So there's no basis for any assumption that they did in that case.

...

Yes they set the board and stuck to it but that doesn’t preclude GRob from being a Fisher pick.

Here is an example. Snead is on record as saying that Gurley is a Rams because of the priority that Fisher placed on RBs. And as we know, Snead is the type of GM that goes out and gets the type of player that his HC wants. If it was up to Snead, maybe he doesn’t pick a RB at #10. He may not value the position that highly.

Likewise, he may not pick OL that high unless the HC highly prioritizes the position or player. When one says that it was a Fisher pick, I think they are saying that without Fisher’s influence that player wouldn’t have been picked. They’re not necessarily saying that Fisher just overruled everyone else and violated the collaborative process.

When you've gotten to "it could still be" you're guessing and being hypothetical. And why? Well there;s a tendency we all have where if something is bad it must be the former coach and if something is good it can't be. '

No they work collaboratively in shaping the board. If GR was going to be taken that high it's because the room agreed to rank him that high. That's at least in part because Snead as a GM takes it upon himself to search out what coaches say then want in prospects. That's easier to do with Kromer than Boudreau because Kromer is better at spotting draft talent than either Boudreau or Hanifan were.

See on this kind of thing, we really do have a ton of info. Several Rams figures have spoken openly for years about their draft process. In several cases outsiders were invited in. That's Demoff, Fisher, Snead, even Boudreau a bit, and then outside reporters speaking up. They all independently stress that it's a collaborative process to set the board. They STILL do that, and still talk that way.

Against that, we have "well it could have been this, it could have been that."

Go read Snead soon after the Robinson pick. He bought in. And I am a big Snead advocate. For lots of reasons though they blew it on that one (one of the big reasons being that OL drafting in round 1 used to be safe and reliable and that has changed since spread offenses have changed the way the college game gets played. Robinson is not the only bad high 1st round OL pick in this era.)

Read Boudreau. He was gung-ho.

We have a ton of evidence it was a collaborative process and against that we have speculation playing "blame game."

I buy it now when they talk about the process and how it's collabortative, and I bought it then. It's no different now than then. The only difference now is no one seems to be looking to find a way to blame someone. cool smiley

And btw Fisher with Munchak in Tenn had a very good record drafting OL. Fisher and Boudreau and Snead didn't (though they did draft Hav). In both cases the OL coach carries a lot of weight. You do not hand an OL coach a prospect he doesn't want or like. It was the same with Martz and Hanifan. Poor record.

As I've said repeatedly: Snead will NOT use a high pick on an Olineman

  He did though.

How do you know that wasn't a Fisher pick?
